Direct School Admission

A. Introduction

Greendale Secondary School will be accepting students for Secondary 1 commencing in Academic Year (AY) 2021 via the 2020 Direct School Admission-Secondary (DSA-Sec) Exercise. We warmly invite Primary 6 students seeking admission into Greendale Secondary  to participate in the DSA Sec Exercise as another avenue besides the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise.

B. Overview of DSA-Sec Talent Areas

The table below outlines (i) the specific talent areas and selection criteria through which P6 students can be admitted into our school via the DSA-Sec Exercise; and (ii) developmental opportunities that DSA students can look forward to. These talent areas are based on our school's signature Applied Learning, Learning for Life and Student Leadership Programmes.

Design, Technology
& Engineering (DTE)

DTE is for students who possess a maker’s mindset and are keen on developing in-depth knowledge in engineering & technology, while deepening their critical and inventive thinking skills.

Sustained positive learning attitude and outcomes

Conduct grade (Very Good and above)

Active participation in CCA

Achievement(s) and/or experience in design- / robotics- related competitions and/or enrichment 

Portfolio showcasing product design (e.g. toy design/robotics) and/or creativity (for shortlisted candidates)

E-interview and questionnaire outcome (for shortlisted candidates)

For all DTE DSA students:

· Robotics CCA

· Young Engineers Bronze & Silver Award

· Career talks on engineering and design by tertiary institutions

· Learning journeys to industrial partners and exhibitions related to design and engineering

For selected DTE DSA students:

· Collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) on (i) competitions, (ii) projects and/or (iii) Youth Makers Programme  

Leadership

Leadership is for students who possess strong leadership potential and are keen on developing and honing their leadership qualities through service to others and the community.

Sustained
positive learning attitude and outcomes

Conduct
grade (Very Good and above)

Active participation in CCA

Attained leadership position(s) in primary school, e.g. Class / CCA Exco, Prefectorial Board, NE Ambassador, Peer Support Leader, etc.

Portfolio showcasing participation in leadership development opportunities and leadership outcomes (for shortlisted candidates)

E-interview and questionnaire outcome (for shortlisted candidates)

For all Leadership DSA students:

· Level 1 and 2 student leadership programmes

· Opportunities to assume leadership roles in class, CCA, sports council, student council, and/or as CCE ambassadors

For selected Leadership DSA students:

· Opportunities to undergo Aspiring / Inspiring Leaders’ Training Programme(s)

· Opportunity to lead school-wide events e.g. S1 Orientation, Games Carnival, key CCE commemoration days, etc.

Outdoor Adventure

Outdoor Adventure is for students who possess physical, personal and social attributes to  thrive in challenging and unfamiliar outdoor experiences and are keen on strengthening these attributes through outdoor activities.

Sustained positive learning attitude and outcomes

Conduct grade (Very Good and above)

Active participation in CCA

At least a NAPFA silver award

Special consideration will be given to students with exposure to relevant outdoor activities e.g. swimming, kayaking, rock-climbing, camp-craft, first-aid, etc.  

E-interview and questionnaire outcome (for shortlisted candidates)

For all OA DSA students:

· ODAC (Outdoor Adventure
Club) CCA

· Outdoor skills programmes
e.g. pioneering, wilderness first aid, etc.  

· Outdoor activities including 1 & 2 Star kayaking, hiking, high elements

· Planning and execution of signature outdoor adventure programmes and events e.g. national orienteering challenge, sea expedition, etc.

· Learning journeys on outdoor/environmental education

For selected OA DSA students:

· Work Experience programme in related fields

· Advanced Elective Module (AEM) @ Republic Polytechnic on Developing Outdoor & Adventure Learning

· Greenwave project (optional)
